Guide

Use your phone as a mic in Zoom, Discord, OBS and more

Once OwnMic is connected, any Windows app can use your phone as its microphone. You just pick it once in the app's settings.

First time? Set up OwnMic and VB-Cable first — it takes a few minutes. Follow the phone-as-mic guide or the full setup guide.

The microphone to choose

In every app, your phone shows up as CABLE Output (VB-Audio Virtual Cable). Choose that as the microphone or input device. If you also pick it in Windows Settings → System → Sound → Input, most apps will use it by default.

Zoom

  1. Open Zoom and click your profile picture → Settings.
  2. Go to Audio.
  3. Under Microphone, choose CABLE Output (VB-Audio Virtual Cable). Use Test Mic to check it.

During a meeting you can also click the small arrow next to Mute and pick it there.

Discord

  1. Click the gear icon (User Settings) at the bottom left.
  2. Open Voice & Video.
  3. Set Input Device to CABLE Output (VB-Audio Virtual Cable) and use Mic Test to hear yourself.

OBS Studio

  1. Open Settings → Audio.
  2. Set Mic/Auxiliary Audio to CABLE Output (VB-Audio Virtual Cable).
  3. Or add it to a single scene: in Sources click + → Audio Input Capture and choose the cable.

Microsoft Teams

  1. Click the … menu next to your picture → Settings.
  2. Open Devices (or Devices & audio).
  3. Set Microphone to CABLE Output (VB-Audio Virtual Cable).

Google Meet (in the browser)

  1. In a meeting, click the three dots → Settings → Audio.
  2. Set Microphone to CABLE Output (VB-Audio Virtual Cable).
  3. If the browser asks for microphone access, allow it.

Games and other apps

Most games and apps have a voice, audio or microphone setting. Choose CABLE Output there — or leave it on Default and set the cable as the default input in Windows.
